Step 1 Details
Your security guard or private investigator licence has an expiry date that is linked to your date of birth. The first time you apply for a licence, your licence will expire two birthdays after the day it is issued. For example, if your birthday is December 15th and your first licence was issued on October 1st, 2019, your licence will expire on December 15th, 2020.
When your licence is renewed, the renewal date will always be two years in the future and linked to your date of birth.

Step 2 Details
Download and complete a CRLF and submit it to Cancom Security along with copies of two pieces of identification in picture *(JPEG) or Adobe/PDF format CRLF

If you are studying for a Security Guard license, you must also: Submit a copy of your valid and current first aid training certificate with your name, dates of training/expiry from a valid first aid provider.
Training must be a minimum of EFA-B
Other valid training levels are EFA-C, SFA-C and may include AED and/or Emergency Oxygen Use
Approved Providers
If you do not have valid and current first aid, you must obtain this certification before you can book and pass your test to get a license.
Cancom Security recommends Rescue 7 for first aid training.

Step 4 Details
Sign up for on-line training Security Guard training is 12 modules. Each module can be taken independently and costs $10.00 per module, plus HST. When you enroll, you will be redirected to our LMS (Learning Management System) where you can pay the tuition by PayPal and start your program immediately.
Total cost to complete Security Guard license training is $135.60 ($120.00 plus HST). If you do not meet the first aid requirements, additional fees for first aid certification apply. There are no other additional or hidden fees.
Private Investigator training is 12 modules. Each module can be taken independently and costs $13.00 per module, plus HST. When you enroll, you will be redirected to our LMS (Learning Management System) where you can pay the tuition by PayPal and start your program immediately.
Total cost to complete Private Investigator license training is $176.28 ($156.00 plus HST). There are no other additional or hidden fees.

Step 5 Details
Call us to obtaining a Training Completion Number. Once you have successfully completed your Security Guard or Private Investigator online training, or both you must contact Cancom Security at 416-763-0000 and dial extension 8 to notify us so we can verify your training completion and assist you with obtaining a TCN – Training Completion Number issued by Serco Services (Security Guard and Private Investigator Testing) to book your mandatory examination.
Each test is CDN $66.50 plus 13% HST for a total of $75.15. The fee includes your test reservation, test administration, and test marking; it does not include the Service Ontario licensing fee. If you are booking a test for both the Private Investigator and Security Guard licenses, two fees apply and tests will be booked separately.
Once your booking is successful, you will receive both an online and email confirmation/receipt.

After you receive notification of successful completion from Serco Services (Security Guard and Private Investigator Testing) you must submit an application for your license(s) at:

There is a separate fee for your Security Guard, and/or Private Investigator license. You must also submit a separate guarantor form and identification photograph in the format approved by Service Ontario and the Ministry. ($80.00 each, $160.00 for both)
You may attend the Cancom Security offices with your valid identification, identification photograph and application form, or meet with us online, again and send the completed forms for our guarantor services/signature, at no additional charge.

You may also go to any authorized guarantor as set out on the guarantor form, available at forms.mgcs.gov.on.ca
Once your application is approved, you will be mailed your permanent security license at set out at: www.ontario.ca
Step 6 Details
After the time as set out by the Ministry you can also download a temporary license so you can seek employment and begin work immediately.
All students of Cancom Security training programs are encouraged to submit an application and book an appointment for an interview, as available.
